Tim Holt-Wilson is an Earth heritage specialist with an interest in the overlap between arts and the environment.
“‘Everything is flux’, said Heraclitus, and I am inspired by natural processes (physical & biological) and how the reality of the Earth as process can be communicated, as a way of raising its value in the hive mind. All things are moments: all nouns are verbs. We live at a significant time in the Earth’s evolution: I want our work to reflect that. Groundwork Network is the best forum I know for making it so.”
About Tim Holt-Wilson
Tim Holt Wilson’s formative studies were in geology, archaeology and classical studies at Cardiff University, followed by a year in Paris at the Sorbonne to study French language. He then worked in London for a dealer in modern art which provided grounding in artistic culture. Subsequently, he has largely shaped his own career through applying his considerable knowledge and meticlous research across the fields of geology and heritage.
Tim is a charismatic communicator in his field, always creative and engaging and responsive to other creative people and ideas. Based in South Norfolk, he is committed both to studying his local area and communicating to local audiences, both specialist and general.

He has worked for the museums of Diss, Ipswich and Dunwich and has contributed as a geologist to Art Branches creative workshops for vulnerable children and adults for which he gained the David Wood National Landscape Award in 2021. His many publications (listed in Academia) range from specialist geological papers and articles to outputs for a wider public, including Earth Heritage trails for Mousehold Heath and the East Anglian Brecks. A founding member of the Norfolk Geodiversity Partnership he has always been a strong advocate for promoting the conservation of Earth heritage, and often acts as a consultant in planning and development matters.
Tim has been a regular contributor to the GroundWork Residency programme and never fails to inspire our artists. Each year his tours to local geological sites and phenomena are a complete revelation both to those artists who are already familiar with geology and those who are new to the field.
