“I still believe in truth”

“Texture and sculptural elements lend physicality that give presence to demanding content, whilst always prioritising the visual language. I believe that careful observation of the natural world is the foundation and basis of how art touches us. I still believe in truth.”

Katy Sayers Green ’s formal art education started with a BA in Fine Art, Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, Oxford University. More recently, Katy grounded her environmental interests through an MA in Art and Science at Central St. Martins, University of the Arts, London.

A state of flux and change

Following the Summer art residency at Groundwork, 2024, she focused on the Wash Zone. Katy has been drawn to its constant movement and state of flux. For her this epitomises vast and constant change in every aspect of the Norfolk coastal environment; through time, through space and with a sense of wonder.

“This is a seamless place that suggests a liminal state between what is already known and what is yet to come; constantly re-purposing, constantly forming new improbabilities and constantly generating unlikely exchanges. As this planet faces so many uncertainties, I hover in this place of uncertainty for a relatively short time. All around me is ebb and flow, life and death, war and peace. I find myself in a momentary place of stillness and as witness to reflect on everything that swirls, shifts, moves and changes; looking to ancient wisdoms and myths to shed light on what was, what is and what is to be.”
