Jan Alison Edwards creates a dialogue between herself the onlooker and the natural environment. Jan’s personal methodology relates to the polarisation of human-kind’s relationship with nature. Her work practice which has developed around these conceptual ideas. In terms of her artistic grounding,
Jan discovered the art of paper-making in the studio of Maureen Richardson many years before studying Ceramics at Art College.
Natural meterial, seaweeds, pigments, soil…
Jan Alison Edwards combines traditional and modern techniques and materials. She often uses plant fibres growing in situ, plus natural materials seaweeds, pigments, soil, sand, and garden or pond debris.
Since relocating to the UK after many years abroad the artists practice has developed into a deeper eco ethos using as far as possible only natural materials. Jan chooses the fibre or medium for the particular concept. Generally she creates 3D installation, sculptures or the book form.
“Studying this year for a Fine Art MA will give me the opportunity to develop my methodology into a fully stainable practice by creating artworks in situ using of only natural materials that will slowly return to nature.”
Pondlife
“PONDLIFE” is an ongoing project reflecting on our intrinsic inter-dependable connection to all life on our planet.
Peering into the “Pond” (the Primordial Soup) we can visualise our deepest past, lost histories, memories, senses and our metaphysical roots.
“How we make meaning of signs and codes from the living world”
The installations “EMERGENT”, “EMERGING”, and “CHROOCOCALES” attempt to highlight the biosemetics of how we make meaning of the signs and codes we interpret from the living world, and how we can tune in to reconnect.
“If we can only recognise these codes we may be able to learn to reconnect to our distant past and all life on earth.”
